Longview, TX Air Conditioning Repair & Service
Longview, Texas, is a multicultural city that is home to many festivals and events that attract visitors from all over the world. The Multicultural Festival is held every year to promote awareness of cultural matters in the area. The festival features vendors of all kinds, food and prizes. Multicultural cooking demonstrations teach the public how to create international foods in their own homes. Musical and theatrical performances showcase the diversity of the region through the arts. The festival has always taken place in October, which is Diversity Awareness Month.
Going along with the theme of diversity, a local film festival is held every month at the library. The films chosen deal with an important global or cultural issue, and the films are discussed after they are screened.
On Memorial Day each year, Longview celebrates with the Memorial Day Weekend Motorcycle Rally. Motorcycle clubs and riders from Texas and the surrounding states come to enjoy the music, activities and parade. During the parade, more than 300 motorcycles travel through the city, escorted by the motorcycle unit of the Longview Police Department.
Every year on the first weekend in June, the city of Longview celebrates AlleyFest. AlleyFest began as an artists’ showcase in 1978. It has grown to include art exhibits, races, music, food and activities for kids. Special exhibits intrigue the public every year. In the past, the festival has featured antique car shows, nature programs, and the Budweiser Clydesdales. It’s a celebration of culture and tradition.
Nicknamed the Balloon Capital of Texas, Longview is home to the Great Texas Balloon Race. This annual festival began as a marketing scheme for the grand opening of Longview Mall in 1978. Dr. Bill Bussey, a dentist who happened to fly a hot air balloon, acted as a flying billboard as he flew his balloon toting a sign for the mall. On the first anniversary of the Longview Mall opening, Dr. Bussey and two mall managers held the Great Texas Balloon Race in the same spot. Two years later, the first Balloon Glow took place in the parking lot of the Longview Mall. During the Balloon Glow, hot air balloon owners display their balloons in the evening with lights illuminating the bold colors and intricate designs.
